Season is not the only thing, you should select the best time of a day for aerial photography. In aerial photography, sunny conditions are the best because a sunny day can reveal all the details of objects on the ground but in overcast conditions, the depth of the scene is hard to capture. Overcast conditions can be favorable in a way as you can shoot the clouds and make best photographs out of it.

Camera Settings

Of course when you are up there, you will use a zoom lens and with zoom lens there is a greater chance for a camera shake as you will be in motion and there will be vibration from the movement of helicopter or aircraft. You should use greater shutter speed for better aerial photographs and higher ISO settings, this will help in reduction of some issues like camera shake.

You should use wide angle lens as they will provide the depth of field and will give you some excellent landscapes photographs. Try to use the same lens throughout your flight as it will become difficult to change lens in an aircraft. If you are up to your first aerial photography experience then use zoom lens as it will provide you everything, close up shots, panoramic and easy landscape shots and with zoom lens you can explore more and more.
